Now Lane ran no temp on Saturday or Sunday, so I think we are coming out the other side of being sick and in the clear... I call the doctors office Monday morning to make sure they still want us to come, (unsure about lane spreading anything or not) and yes they still want us to make the trip, so on the road we go....
We arrive in OKC a few hours later and guess what.....
Still trying to figure it out... well let me help you out.... I did not dress my son in this getup.... Nope he had on regular little boys clothes that didn't reveal any equipment when he sat down, or climbed over chairs.... Yep he had on a t shirt and pants, along with some briefs, that is until he with great force he drenched them (yes dripping wet) with vomit just a mile from the hospital..... Uh what is a mom to do...so we are in the parking garage of the hospital and I am digging for something for him to wear... oh, he has a blanket, nope its wet.... pillow case nope wet.... Oh he has a jacket, great wonderful, take his wet shirt off and replace with jacket.... Check...... Okay bottom half, uh underwear soaked in puke, must remove, well then.... after searching the truck over, I find another jacket, perfect, so I fit my son in his new jacket skirt.... By the way my son is a little well I should say very picky about what he will wear so I am certain he is going to throw the biggest fit, and God was looking out for me cuz, no complaint... Lane just went with it, thought it was funny and was up for the challenge of walking around the hospital in this getup... Kudos to Lane, I really needed that.. what a trooper.... Now for the fantastic part.... Normally I try to make Lane's trip to the city positive and fun, I want every trip to a good memory not a bad one... Yes sometimes he get pokes or shots or sticks crammed down his throat, but what I want him to remember is fun stuff like, Check E Cheese, going to a park, a treat from Target, playing at McDonald's, or playing catch along the side of the highway, anything other than just medical.....
This trip was not going to offer any room for fun.... Although I think he is adorable, obviously strutting around in his two jacket outfit with no roos on is really not going to work in the McDonald's play yard.... And even if it did, obviously something is still going on with him and his flu bug, so we need to hibernate a little longer.....
But our wonderful Macey from Make a Wish braved the illness and met us in the parking garage, which actually I felt terrible since she didn't know he puked everywhere... She was the Highlight, Huge Blessing of our day...
As any parent can imagine, I was really keeping a positive attitude, but this was a trying day..... I start Lane on an hour of treatments, while I load three large ice chests with specimens and then load into truck, load everything else necessary to make trip, along with Lane, stop to get gas, then stop to put air in tire, drive two hours to OKC, oh don't let me forget the crazy psycho man on highway which refused to let me pass him and played games for an hour of my trip (freaky)..., then I get to watch my son puke all over everything as I am driving, have the opportunety to be creative and make an outfit out of nothing (okay God gave me two jackets), of to which Lane and I got a HUGE laugh out of....(which we really needed) , then have to figure out how to get my puking kid and ice chests across parking garage and through medical building, with my nudest son, all while trying to avoid the general public as they stare at us.... As you can imagine, yep I was exhausted by 11:00 a.m.
Whew.....
So back to Macey, who saved the day with her generous spirit and desire to volunteer for Make a Wish.... She brought Lane a Pumpkin Treat Bag, filled with a movie, stickers, snacks, pencils and the cutest frog...... God really does plan things well doesn't he..... This trip was not going well, and there would be no eating in at a restaurant or treat at Target... Illness and wardrobe were trying to rob us from a good day, and then Macey dropped by to make it special....
Sometimes you really don't know just how much of an impact you have on someone... Or how your act of kindness really did make a difference for someone else.... So a special thank you to Macey and Make a Wish.... We were not able to visit long, or run and play in the parking garage, but you made a difference that day.... You helped us make wonderful memories on a day that didn't start out so wonderful.....
A wonderful reminder to keep laughing, these are the moments that make memories....
